Our main concern is that you are comfortable. We like to adhere to tradition: wearing shirts with plus fours and thick woollen shooting socks. That’s because it’s not only comfortable to do so but enjoyable. But we don’t force formality on any of our guests – we genuinely want you to feel at home, and happy with whatever you wear.
We do however strongly recommend you bring a warm, wind- and water-proof coat, good-quality water-proof boots, hearing protection, shooting gloves, sunglasses and a hat.
Transport & Permits
We will be happy to help with transport to and from Loyton. By car, we are three hours from London, 45 minutes from Bristol and 20 minutes from Exeter. By rail, a direct service from London Paddington to Tiverton Parkway takes just 2 hours. Our closest airports are Exeter and Bristol.
For those coming from overseas or taking a gun on a temporary basis, we will be happy to arrange a Visitor Shotgun Permit on your behalf.
GUN Hire & Storage
Our hire guns include a range of 12-bore and 20-bore over-and-under shotguns made by Beretta, Browning and Miroku. Contact us to find out more.
Here at Loyton we offer both short- and long-term gun storage in our secure facility. All guns are fully insured against damage, fire and theft when in our care and remain onsite at Loyton stored in police approved gun safes with security alarms.
Gun Sales & Brokerage
We also buy and sell new and used shotguns for clients and are fortunate to have the expertise to do this. If you are looking for a particular gun to buy please visit The Gun Room for further details.
cartridges
We supply cartridges and can offer an extensive range in addition to our house cartridges, which are the premium 32-gram ‘Black Gold’ game cartridges made by Gamebore. We are always happy to discuss bespoke orders, just let us know.
SIMULATED CLAYDAYS
Clay shooting offers the ideal way to warm up before heading into the field. With knowledgeable instructors on hand and dedicated loaders to assist, guests can enjoy a relaxed session refining their technique and building confidence on expertly set targets.
BESPOKE itinerary
For guests looking to explore beyond the shoot, Loyton can arrange a bespoke itinerary of memorable trips and experiences. Enjoy relaxing wellness, scenic horse riding, curated shopping, or a day exploring London, all designed to create a truly personal and enjoyable experience during your stay.

Of course – everyone is welcome at Loyton. If your partner prefers not to join you in the field, there are any number of things for them to enjoy locally, from the galleries, shops and restaurants of Exeter to the fabulous walking and horse riding on Exmoor. We can also arrange wellness treaments and spa visits. Just let us know and we can curate your day.
Partners are also welcome to accompany the guns. A popular option is to join the guns at elevenses, after a leisurely morning.

Tips are encouraged as part of the tradition, and we suggest looking after the host staff, loaders, keepers, shoot day chefs and helpers. We’ll be happy to advise on this.
